So today our debut album ‘Rescue’ was nominated for the Welsh Music Prize! We’re really proud of the record we made but never imagined the reception it’s received since its release back in July.

To be nominated alongside some of my heroes such as Manic Street Preachers and Gruff Rhys is such an honour in itself. The reason I picked up a guitar was because of their bands and I never could have imagined all these years later I would be competing against them for a national music prize.

You can check out all the other excellent nominees right here: http://welshmusicprize.com/category/nominees

Back in July we shot the video for our current single I Am Your Density at the brand new training space for Cardiff’s NoFitState Circus.

We were extremely privileged to have access to the space and to have the services of Becca Clark and Hannah O’Leary as our performing artists.

Our friends Zeyad and Nick came down from Derby early on a Sunday morning to film for us. This was the first music video the guys had ever shot as they both came from a BMX background.

The results were incredible and we’re proud of the final cut! Check it out on our videos page now!

We went and did a music movie for our single Antlers! We had a lot of fun filming it with our friend Michael Partridge (who is a right dude!).

It features a lot of our awesome friends in Cardiff who donned animal masks and happily took part in giving me some abuse.

These people support us and we support them and what they do. Without Spillers Records, Music Box Studios, Nelly’s Treasures, Ghost Town Records and CFQ, Cardiff would be a worse off place.

Hope you enjoy the video

So this is our new single. It’s kind of our last fling with math-rock as we’ve taken a different approach for our album (which we’re currently recording) due later this year.

Hope you like it!

It’ll be available to download for FREE, yes FREE of bloody charge from here: samoanstheband.bandcamp.com/track/antlers

It’s out on 01/07/13 and we’ve even done a video. Yes, us, Samoans have done a video. Our first one (mainly due to us always starting and failing to finish them). It was filmed/directed by our good friend, Michael Partridge at Defy Designs. The main theme is unrequited love between a deer and a horse plus lots of violence. Like consistent (comedy) violence. Ever thought what a man dressed as a deer being murdered with a spoon would look like? Well now you get the chance.
